Meet Meredith
Described as a “one-person powerhouse,” Braintree Town Councilor Meredith Boericke is an innovator, collaborator, and problem-solver. First elected in 2019, she has delivered on her promise to listen to residents and bring their voices to Town Hall. Meredith believes local government can improve lives in ways big and small - from potholes to parks, businesses to bus stops. She models responsive governance, honoring residents’ experiences, championing their ideas, and lifting up their solutions. By bringing a variety of perspectives to Town Hall, Meredith works to build a thriving and welcoming community.
Meredith is the fourth generation of her family to be nurtured by the town. She and her husband
are raising their sons here, and Meredith is committed to building on her parents’ and
grandparents’ legacy of public service. During her time on the Town Council she served as
Chair of the Ways & Means Committee, and she was the Council President in her second term.
Meredith is known for pioneering new ways for residents to participate in government. She was
the first Braintree elected official to use Zoom for community meetings, the first to write a
monthly newsletter, the first to publish the rationale behind all her votes, the first to provide
video recaps of the Council meetings, the first to provide translation of key materials into
Chinese, and the first to hold weekly office hours, giving everyone the opportunity to share their
ideas and concerns. Based on residents’ feedback, she passed the first tree protection
ordinance; voted to increase affordable housing options; supported changes to revitalize the
town’s commercial zones; and championed the town’s first ever successful vote to fund a new
middle school, Braintree’s first in 50 years!
Meredith’s track record for inclusive leadership has been recognized within and beyond
Braintree’s borders. During Meredith’s first term, she was honored with the Braintree
Partnership Community Heroes Award, presented annually to community members who foster
conditions that prevent and reduce youth substance use. The award recognized her inclusive
leadership style and commitment to the Partnership’s mission. The Mass Women’s Political
Caucus, a non-partisan group that endorses, supports, and helps to elect qualified women to
achieve gender political parity in the Commonwealth, endorsed Meredith all three times she has
run for Town Council. And in 2024, Meredith was named a Mass Housing Partnership Housing
Hero for her hard work and unwavering commitment to supporting and furthering affordable
housing. MHP called her “an advocate for new development that will increase housing options in
the town,” and said she has “highlighted the positive impact … zoning update[s] could have on
helping increase the economic vitality of Braintree.”
Meredith is out in the community every day. She knows District 5’s streets, playgrounds, and
parks and as Town Councilor, she’s worked to keep them safe and accessible for all. But more
than that, she knows the people of Braintree. They are her neighbors, her partners, and her
inspiration. They are the reason she serves.
