Safer Streets

Successfully advocated for Grove Street to be prioritized by the State for evaluation, improvement, and upgrades.
Advocated for the installation of new stop signs, one-way signs, and speed alerts throughout District 5, including on Central Ave, Alida Road, Thayer Ave, and Evergreen Ave.
Advocated for installation of a new crosswalk at Middle Street and Norfolk Road.
Improved wheelchair access to the BHS Gym.
Fought for the re-evaluation of traffic signals that allow for concurrent crossing of vehicles and pedestrians in South Braintree Square to improve pedestrian safety.
Collaborated with residents for neighborhood traffic calming measures implemented on Evergreen Ave., including new crosswalks and roadway realignments to improve pedestrian safety and reduce speeding.
Advocated for state and federal funding for Allen Street restoration.
Urged the Planning Board to require expanded traffic studies for new development at Union/Ivory Street intersection and Route 3 Rotary.
Requested increased transit police patrols at Braintree MBTA station transit police to hazardous waste.
Advanced work for a Railroad Quiet Zone by working with Congressman Lynch’s office, the Federal Railroad Administration and the Mayor’s office.

Increasing Civic Engagement & Prioritizing Transparency

Held the first community-wide listening session on race and equity
Published weekly Covid-19 updates and held multiple Covid-19 listening sessions early on in the pandemic.
Pioneered use of Zoom for community meetings – was the first in Town to use Zoom for a community meeting about the Debt Exclusion vote held on March 12, 2020.
Organized Braintree’s first MLK Jr. Day of Service event: compiling box lunches for Father Bill’s.
Hosted numerous neighborhood meetings to make sure residents are the first to know about new projects in your neighborhood and so that developers can hear directly from you.
Championed and approved Vote By Mail at the state and approved it at the local level.
Increased language access: first elected official to provide translation of key materials into Chinese.
Expanded constituent outreach by bringing the Council to you at the Farmers Market, Flag Football, and in District 5 neighborhoods; first to introduce a scannable QR code on the Council agendas to make it easier for residents to access BCAM’s live stream of Council meetings.
Increased civic engagement: first Councilor to publish monthly newsletters, hold weekly office hours, and provide video recaps of all Council meetings.
Increased transparency: first Councilor to publish my rationale for every vote ever taken on the Council.

Drafted, filed and passed Braintree’s first public tree protection ordinance.
Proposed and passed Council Committee oversight responsibilities on issues of the environment and sustainability. For the first time environmental considerations were formally included as part of the Council’s purview.
Supported critical facility improvements for Braintree’s Water Treatment Plant .
Spearheaded Winter Walks, Fall Strolls and park clean-ups to promote Braintree’s open spaces.
Voted for increasing our conservation land: a wetlands purchase at the corner of Liberty & Grove Streets, and a conservation restriction on Cedar Swamp.
Supported and advocated for the restoration of the Monatiquot River, particularly the stretch flowing between Plain Street and the Mahar Highway.
Advocated through the Mass. Office of Energy & Environmental Affairs for green infrastructure grants at Smith Beach.
Voted to fund shoreline stabilization at Watson Park to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Advocated for and voted to fund the refurbishment of the Pickleball Courts.
Successfully lobbied for a young adult golf membership to broaden access to the Municipal Golf Club.

Represented District 5 as Mayor’s appointee for the South Braintree Square Rapid Recovery Project.
Supported the anti-blight ordinance to incentivize the clean-up of dilapidated properties.
Advanced passage of MBTA Communities Act to encourage redevelopment of the Ivory Street Corridor.
Voted to increasing affordable housing options in The Landing.
Supported financial incentive program to redevelop the Haemonetics property on Wood Road with a life science manufacturer.
Supported rezone to allow for cannabis cultivation in Commercial and Highway Business areas of town. This zoning change diversifies the potential for commercial revenue, incentivizes the revitalization of underutilized or vacant properties in Commercial zones in town, and allows for increased revenue through new excise taxes.

Introduction of public art to the Council Chambers to highlight the creativity of Braintree Public Schools students and encourage civic engagement.

Developed interactive Town budget visualization to show how our tax dollars are being spent.
Created educational tools for residents to better understand Braintree’s financial health.
Champion for Braintree’s first ever successful Debt Exclusion vote, ushering in long-awaited school improvements.
Developed interactive map to locate Community Preservation Act Fund projects.
Led the budget debate at the Council.
